Harvey named Director of Harrison County Operations

Fairmont State University announces Dr. Richard Harvey will serve as Director, Harrison County Operations, to oversee the expansion of facilities and programs in that region.

FSU has three facilities in Harrison County region, the downtown Clarksburg Gaston Caperton Center, the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center as well as the 10,000 square foot presence under construction in the Charles Pointe development. The facilities host some of FSU's degree programs in high-demand career fields, like nursing, criminal justice, information systems management and aerospace.

A total of 1,254 students have been honored for their academic achievement at Fairmont State University after completing the fall 2016 semester.

Dr. Christina Lavorata, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, has released the Dean’s List and the President’s List to recognize high-achieving students for their academic distinction. Full-time students who earned a 3.4 or better grade point average are named to the Dean’s List. Full-time students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the President’s List.

In collaboration with the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, Fairmont State University’s School of Business hosted a Business After Hours event on campus on March 8, providing a valuable networking opportunity for students.

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce offers these events every month as a way to showcase member businesses and to create a great networking opportunity for businesses and organizations. The School of Business partnered with the Chamber of Commerce to host the March event as a way to give students a chance to interact with local businesses.

FSU to Celebrate 148th Commencement on May 13

More than 400 students will participate in the 148th Commencement for Fairmont State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the Feaster Center.

Dr. Maria C. Rose, FSU President, will present special remarks for the ceremony, which will mark her last as president; she will retire when her contract ends on June 30.  Julian Pecora of Clarksburg will be the student speaker representing the Class of 2017.

Fairmont State University’s outstanding faculty members were recognized on Wednesday, April 19, during the Recognition of Faculty Achievement luncheon for their exemplary efforts throughout the 2016-2017 academic year.

The event was hosted by the Faculty Development Committee, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Fairmont State Foundation. Funding for the awards and grants is provided by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Fairmont State Foundation.

The Fairmont State University School of Business honored students for their academic achievement at the Delta Mu Delta Induction Ceremony and Scholarship and Award Presentations at the end of the spring 2017 semester. Dr. Richard Harvey is Dean of the School of Business. Dr. Gina Fantasia and Dr. Rebecca Giorcelli are Associate Deans.

FSU School of Business to establish student investment fund

The Fairmont State Foundation board recently approved a $100,000 gift from the estate of Wendell Hardway to establish a student investment fund that will give students in the School of Business marketable skills they could use long after graduation.

And the gift is one that the school hopes will continue to give year after year.

The Hardway Student Investment Fund will allow School of Business students to manage a portfolio in real time, as opposed to a simulation, under the close supervision of faculty member Dr. Joe Kremer.

Falcon royalty prepares to crown her successor

It’s not every day royalty can be found on the campus of Fairmont State University. But since the fall semester began, Fairmont State has been home to its very own queen, Miss West Virginia United States, Katelyn Hollar.

Hollar began competing in pageants during her junior year of high school. A Clarksburg native, Hollar liked that this event benefited Toys for Tots. She entered and was crowned Miss Snowflake. At that point the pageant bug bit her and she began competing in many different pageants.
